Sites of the Week: June 9, 2012

“Critics are men who watch a battle from a high place, then come down and shoot the survivors.”

 Ernest Hemingway

Now on to this week’s sites.  This week, I’m sending out two ‘Site of the Week’ recommendations that take a fresh look at some earlier, related Sites of the Week.

Ask Bob Rankin: Skydrive, Google Drive or Dropbox?

Cloud storage and sync services are increasingly popular because they allow you to store your data more securely online in a single place where you always have access from multiple devices and can readily share it. Past Sites of the Week have featured Windows Live SkyDrive (5/1/2011), Dropbox (6/4/2011) and more recently Google Drive (4/29/2012). This Ask Bob Rankin column compares their features and costs of these services and can help you decide which one is best for you.

Lockergnome: Should You Be Worried About RFID Skimming?

One of the sites included in the 12/5/2010 Sites of the Week was Identity Stronghold.  It referenced a video on electronic pick pocketing and addressed credit/debit card security concerns associated with an RFID subset known as Near Field Communication—more commonly known as NFC.  NFC is the ability to make payments by simply tapping a credit card to a mobile device. This Lockergnome column provides a practical assessment of the risk as NFC becomes more common.
