Sites of the Week: December 8, 2013

“We are always the same age inside.”

Gertrude Stein

Factoid: The U.S. currently spends 17.7 percent of its GDP on health care, while no other nation tops 12 percent.

The Week

Now on to this week’s sites. This week, I’m sending out three ‘Site of the Week’ recommendations.

Internet Sacred Text Archive
http://www.sacred-texts.com/

This is the largest available archive of online books about religion, mythology and folklore. The site is dedicated to religious tolerance and scholarship and is not sponsored by any religious denomination or group.

Prey
http://www.PreyProject.com

Prey is a small program that is designed to help you recover a lost or stolen laptop, tablet or smartphone. One activated, Prey silently connected to any network and then gathers information on the location and status of your device and can optionally sound a loud alarm, capture screenshots and even photos, lock down or wipe the device, or monitor online activity. Both a free and pro version are available.

Pipl
https://pipl.com/

Pipl is a people search engine. While a general purpose search engine typically crawls the Surface Web, which is indexed by standard search engines, Pipl crawls the Deep Web which is made up of pages to which no other pages link. Search by name, email, username or phone. Even if you’re not interested in searching for anyone else, you may want to search on yourself to see what is out there.
